What are the early warning signs of heart disease?

There are several early warning signs that may indicate a heart problem. If you experience unexplained fatigue (such as becoming excessively tired during activities that were once easy or finding that you can no longer do those activities), it could be a sign of heart disease.

Shortness of breath during physical activity is another warning sign, especially if simple activities like walking up a flight of stairs become more difficult than they used to be. Swelling in the legs and shortness of breath while at rest can also be symptoms of heart disease.

Chest heaviness or pressure (even if it is mild) may indicate a heart problem. The classic symptoms of angina include a pressure sensation in the chest that radiates into the jaw and down the arm. It is often accompanied by sweating. However, not everyone experiences these classic symptoms.

Any new symptoms involving your chest or your breathing should be taken seriously and evaluated by a healthcare provider.
