Being overweight can contribute to heart disease, primarily because it is often associated with other risk factors. People who are overweight are more likely to have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides or diabetes.
Being overweight by itself does not necessarily put you at risk for heart disease. However, it often contributes to other conditions that are known risk factors for developing heart disease.
