ACS Q&A – Dr. Krause: What is Angina?

Angina is chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart. This diminished blood flow can result from circulation problems, plaque buildup in the arteries, or constriction or spasm of the blood vessels.

Some of the common symptoms of angina include tightness in the chest, pain radiating into the left arm, shortness of breath and sweatiness. It also tends to stem from exertion or physical activity, which can provoke an episode.
