Kevin’s heart journey began after experiencing overnight symptoms that led to a troubling diagnosis. His care team at Advanced Cardiovascular Specialists promptly arranged for an LVAD implant, which became a turning point in his heart journey. This treatment has allowed Kevin to return to his daily activities and spend valuable time with his family.

Kevin, LVAD Patient:
I laid down. In the middle of the night, that’s when the symptoms started. Coughing, wheezing, you know, that type of thing. Dizziness. I went to Kellie and Elizabeth. Well, I called them first, and they set me an appointment: emergency appointment at ACS. When I got there, it was like, ‘Oh, you are looking kind of rough there. Let us check you.’ They were like, ‘Oh, no. We’re going to have to send you out to Baylor.’ Ran tests on me. Sure enough, I was really sick. By the time I left there, I had an LVAD in me. They call me all the time and say, ‘Hey, Kevin. How are you doing? This is Kellie or this is Elizabeth.’ That gives me a good sense of like, hey, a family sense of feeling, you know, like these people really care about me. Physically, I feel 100% better with this LVAD. The quality of life, being able to know I was going to live and still be around for my kids and my grandchildren and my wife … It was very awesome. That’s the word I could use: awesome.
